- korbeExplorerA chain saw can get you out of a jam too. Not just for fire wood.
- nevadanickExplorerI guess i should have been more specific. We are going to Alaska and will camp along the way. Just about everywhere i have ever camped, gathering firewood is allowed. I dont want to have to stick 10ft deadfall in the Jeep. I know all about transporting, the reason for taking the chainsaw. Whatever we dont use up, we leave behind for the next person.

Next time just say you like vintage cordless tools. :B - downtheroadExplorerNot sure where you are planning to camp that will allow the use of a chain saw. We camp a lot in WA and OR State and private parks...
It's a no, no for sure. - JoeGood988ExplorerNot too many places allow people to cut trees or gather firewood. Many campgrounds do not...State Parks or National Parks don't either. If you travel much, you can't transport firewood from one state to another. If you're just a weekend camper....buy it from various places like walmart, Grocery stores, etc
- MitchF150Explorer IIINever mind... Just saw you posted this in the Alaska forum... :)
Mitch - rv2goExplorer III guess I'm old time. I carry a bow saw, extra blades, an Ax and a hatchet.
- 2oldmanExplorer III carry a chainsaw but it's not for firewood.
- Johno02ExplorerA small electric works well, and doesn't attract as much attention. (wanted or not). Remember that many places National and state parks, prohibit wood cutting, though most have no problem with gathering fallen stuff.
