Charleston to NJ, 95 or 77 to 81?

We are heading home from spring break .

Kicking around if we should take 95 which will probably be a parking lot or if we should head west to catch 77 to 81 to hopefully avoid the crowds on route 95. Any suggestions? We are trying to beat a Nasty storm with high winds in NJ on sunday
  • We ended up taking 95 to 301 to 3 to 97 to 695, Francis Scott key bridge. 301 had some lights, but probably worked out better than heading west.
  • Mike we have taken both of those routes. Up the eastern shore is way more scenic and a little slower. Its a toss up but for certain anything is better than 95!

  • We like to use US-17 to US-13 to US-113 to DE-24 to DE-1 to US-9 to the Garden State Parkway. This route takes you across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and the uses the Cape May/Lewis Ferry to cross Delaware Bay. There is a lot of four lane, but still some two lane sections. SC-544, 31 & 9 will bypass most of Myrtle beach. there are bypasses around many of the other highly developed areas.
  • I use 95 to 17 near Fredricksburg to 66 to 81. No mountains like 77 and a little shorter. So do a lot of other folks on here. Straight thru Richmond if not rush hour.
