DW and I will be heading for the Jacksonville, FL area from east central Illinois around the 9th of Jan. We went down this fall which was our first trip to Florida with the motorhome. Took the Pennyrile to I-24 and then I-75 down to I-10 in Florida, not a fan of Nashville, Chattanooga or Atlanta. I have been checking out all the suggestions trying to figure out the best way to avoid as much of the city traffic as possible. I am thinking about I-24 to Nashville then I-65 down as far as Montgomery, AL then US-231 down to I-10.
We will still have Nashville, Tn and Birmingham, AL and we have never been to Birmingham but it seems like a good trade for Chattagoona and Atlanta. The internet maps show this as only about 60 miles and two hours longer drive over the I-24 to I-75 route. One good traffic jam in Atlanta could give more delay than that. This would be interstate all the way except for the 140 miles of US 231, What kind of road and conditions are we looking at for this strech? Thanks, Jim.
