Chief Mountain Highway

While looking at the map for a border crossing, I noticed one on Montana Highway 17 listed as Chief Mountain Highway. Has anyone traveled this road in a Class "A" during Late May?? The road looks like a fairly easy drive but just wondering about conditions and the border crossing there.

Thanks in advance for any input.
  • We crossed there the end of July last year coming from Canada to the US. It was certainly not busy and was a larger facility than I expected. We were towing a 22' TT and had no difficulty with the road. You might want to be sure that they are open in May. lizzie
  • Thanks Lizzie !! I was sure hoping it would be a fairly good road, it looked liked a real scenic drive.
  • I'm not sure were you are coming from but if you are coming up the east side of Glacier National Park, MT 49 between US 2 and US 89 is NOT a road to take. There are signs on the south end warning you about low clearances; I am not sure about the north end. And US 89 from Browning to ST. Mary is crooked as a goat trail. Nor a problem to tow but a lot of 35 MPH curves.
