chilhowie recreation area benton tennessee

I was wondering if anyone had good directions how to get to this park from the baltimore md area..i have seen alot of articles online saying what ways not to go if you are towing a trailer but i can't find anything about how to get there with towing a trailer as i will be any info is appreciated going there the week of easter sunday
  • You need to turn up the mountain off US-64 by the Ocoee Ranger Station, Oswald Rd. Do not try and tow up Benton Springs Rd, off TN-314. Oswald Rd is steep for a couple of miles as you climb up the mountain, then it levels off. Turn for campground is at the end of paved part of the road. Last time we went up there we had a 30' Jay Flight 5th wheel, it was tight but doable. Loops AB&F have electric hookups. I like A&B.
  • Take I-75 to exit 60, which is SR68. Take SR68 to US411. Take US411 to Benton, then SR314 over to the Forest Service roads.

If you want to maximize your interstate time, take I-75 all the way to Cleveland, TN, and pick up SR60 & US74 to Ocoee, then back north a few miles on SR314.

Avoid Knoxville at rush hours if possible.

There are some grades, but those are inevitable in East TN. Just gear down and get in the right lane.

I highly recommend you get a TN state road map. GPS is not the most reliable source of directions in the backwoods. A Cherokee National Forest map would also be helpful. You want the southern section, if the maps of the north and south sections are sold separately.

Enjoy your trip, and welcome to a beautiful part of the world!
