I'm pondering taking two weeks and driving around Lake Superior. Probably would leave in a few weeks, so early October.I'm not worried about weather so much... I am wondering about places to stay, and places to dump holding tanks.I carry my own water and electricity so those aren't an issue.Thoughts?

Some Provincial campgrounds in Ontario are now closed and all may be closed after Thanksgiving (October 8) KOA's are open until the following weekend. It may be best to check on line for exact dates of campground closures. The public dump site in Thunder Bay closes Thanksgiving as well.

Hmm, maybe I make the trip as far as Thunder Bay, spend a night at Wally's and head back the way I came.

If you're going up thru yooper-land, then west to Dullooth, then north thru Mintysoda to T-Bay, the town of Grand Marais, MN is a quiet, quaint, little place to explore. Was there a few years ago, and it was a very laid back and relaxing stop over for us. We dry camped in the marina parking lot (can't recall if it was allowed?) and enjoyed a beautiful sunrise next morning over Gitche Gumee.

North side of Superior in October will be quite chilly. Expect some nights to be below freezing !

Check. Freecampsites.net. There is a spot in Nipigon just north of hwy 17 and 11 intersection near the native gas. Also beach parking lot in Msrathon with views of sunset and legion down the road . Wawa has parking lot at High falls. And a nice grassy lot south of wawanear an overlook. All doable .

Shoot, it dropped below freezing at my house in Vermont last night, according to my little digital thermometer. (0.2 degrees below freezing, but still....)

A suggestion. Penn lake park in Marathon will probably be closed but they have a large parking lot and a dump site, maybe no water but you could dump. Call the town office, they look after the park and can give detail. Look up town of Marathon on the web.
