Just went this way a couple of weeks ago. sizzy wrote:
Best is always a matter of opinion. Where are you going to stay in Yellowstone? With the size RV in your signature, you could stay in any of the park's first come first serve campgrounds. I would start in the Northeast corner of the park and explore the Lamar Valley and Soda Butte Creek area. From Cody, the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway will take you to US-212 and the Northeast entrance of the park. There are several Forest Service Campgrounds outside the park and Pebble Creek and Slough Creek campgrounds inside the park before you reach the main loop road at Tower Junction. Tower campground is limited to smaller RVs because of the entrance road.
What is the best route to take to get from Cody to Yellowstone?- Jim_ShoeExplorerIts all just one road due west from Cody (US14), but it becomes US14 and US16 when it enters Shoshone National Forest, then drops both of those and turns into US20 when you get to the Grand Loop. Somebody probably knows why, but it isn't me.

Is this a trick question? Is there something specific you want to see or avoid?
Otherwise just head west.
Agreed !...:S...we stayed at Buffalo Bill State Park right on Hwy 20. Left there headed west. Entered East Gate, took pictures of Big Horn Sheep, waited til a Bison decided to get the heck off the road then out the West Gate into Grizzly for two weeks.....Dennis - Is this a trick question?
