Colorado Highway 71 condition between Limon and Brush, CO?

I despise driving though Denver on our way from Texas to Wyoming, so I am considering taking Colorado 71 north to I-76 and then Highway 34 over to Loveland to get back onto I-25. Does anyone have experience with the specific stretch of 71 between Limon and Brush? We will be in an F-350 DRW pulling a 34' fifth wheel. We normally take highway 287 up from Texas anyway, so if it is similar to that, then we should be go to go.

It can't be any worse than the east side of Denver! Besides, just a change will be nice. The drive is half the fun of the trip. Thanks for all the kind help.

  • It is a good road, nice and flat but not much to see other than pasture and wheat fields. We travel it all the time with our 3500 and 37' 5ver.

  • Thanks! We'll give that route a try this weekend. Will be nice to see some new scenery and it only adds 23 miles to the entire trip from Dallas to Grand Teton NP.
  • That route will be fine for you and your rig, we travel it all the time from Colorado Springs to Sterling in CO.
