Colorado State Highway 13, Rifle, CO to Baggs, WY

I have a 35' motor home towing 4 down and heading back to MN from Grand Juction, CO. I wanted to avoid I-70 to and going thru Denver. Is CO Hwy 13 starting at Rifle, CO to Baggs, WY a good route? Are ...

BTW... don't know if its still true, but, years ago, one of the largest herds of Mule deer(BIG Deer)in the country was just north of Rifle. Always deer wrecks along 13 there.
