concerns about atlantic provinces

I am planning a trip to the Atlantic Provinces this summer. I think that there maybe a problem with getting propane for my motorhome, credit cards are not readily accepted everywhere and that there is a problem with cellphone usage/cost also. I would like to know if any of this is true and are there other problems I have not mentioned? Thanks for your help!

  • Howdy!

We spent our summer last year in the maritimes (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland). We had no problems finding propane and paying using credit card.

  • Propane, should not be a problem, just ask at your campground for the closest location. Or check with an RV dealer.
Credit Card, major credit cards, M/V, Visa etc. are readily accepted at nearly all stores, some mom and pop stores may not accept them or charge a small extra fee. Credit cards are accepted at all gas/fuel stations.
Cell phone will work (if cell phone service is available). Check with your service provider for roaming rates or add on packages for Canada.
Cash, many options available. When we travel and even at home, go to Walmart or other stores, make a purchase and ask for cash back. Our bank doesnot charge extra for making a debit purchase and only charge the current exchange rate.

  • Have no idea where your info came from on CC, but all of our trips to the Atlantic Provinces they have been accepted everywhere we presented them. Sure just like the US, some small stores do not accept them, but by and large, you will be able to use them in 99% of the places you need to.

For cellphone use, we have Verizon and by adding the Canadian package for a few dollars extra while in Canada, it is no different then using in the US.

You are talking about the maritimes? We had no problem with credit cards. And you can use your BOA debt cards at Scotia banks for cash. For cell phone, I just called Verizon and added Canada for an extra $10/month/phone for the time we were in Canada. Did put the air card away as that was too expensive, but found that most of the parks had decent wifi and we also used the local libraries (gave them a donation) to get online.
