Construction on 15 Sonora

Today's paper states you have to be very careful on Hwy. 15 between Vicam and Guaymas. There are 5 sections from 10 to 19 KM. ea. long under construction. The photo in the article shows that chip seal being applied. This is the same construction that attacked my windshield. Anyone heading North watch out for crazy drivers or you will lose a para brisa!

  • We are currently in Shadow Ridge in Ajo, Arizona, it's Monday. We agree totally with the notes from stanbnv.

What he didn't talk about was the ease of crossing the border there. We do our best to cross there. Today, it took us our normal, 30 seconds to exit the border crossing. Two, three questions, honest answers, away we go.

It probably helps that we have had the same license plates since 1978 that show our history, but it was easy. 389 miles from San Carlos to Ajo, 8 hours and 10 minutes, including a gas stop and two puppy pees.

Can't wait to return in November.
  • Glad to see we have some optimists! I agreed for the most part for the bad parts but I felt they were worse than your observations. Couldn't always stay in the left lane when cars were coming on I moved so they could pass and it always seemed to be in the worst place We took some free roads and the section we took was repaved two years ago missed the most expensive toll on our route by using it. Rest of the way all toll
  • We just did the Los Mochis to San Carlos run this morning, and basically agree. The short stretch before Vicum and after for about 5 miles sucked big. Not full of holes, but really rough. Haven't had that kind of roughness in many years. Otherwise, good, with some really outstanding stretches, too.

    No grava suelta at all.
  • Here is what I just posted on the La Peñita facebook page.

Just got to Shadow Ridge RV park in Ajo. Road was generally BETTER than I remember it from pryor years with a few exceptions. From the park to Mazatlan it was pretty good except for the known bad spots. Maz to Los Mochis was pretty smooth, just get in the left lane and stay there. Mochis to Guaymas, not too bad until you get over the hill past the toll north of Mochis, then rather rough but doable to the state line then better to Navahoa, then good concrete road to Cd. Obregon. Obregon was the usual joy to get through, then the WORST stretch on the whole trip from Obregon to Guaymas. Guaymas to Santa Ana was OK, usual crowded road through Hermosillo, breezed through the checkpoint. Lots of two way traffic. Sta. Anna to Caborca was smooth to Caborca, then the first 40 or so miles to Soynota, had some pretty bad chuckholes but avoidable if you keep your eyes open, and a few really rough spots but you can see them and slow down, then the last 50 or so miles was pretty good.
  • Thankyou, I am leading a caravan through there last week of march, hopefully it will be further along
