Crescent City, Redding, CA to Reno, NV
We are visiting the west coast from KS. In a few days we will be returning home from the Crescent City, CA area and wondered if highway 299 to Redding, south from Redding to highway 36 to highway 395...

I drive both 36 and 44 regularly. Both are good. The only thing I will add to taking 44 is that it eventually Ts with 36 west of susanville. You need to turn left off 44 to 395. RV park at Eagle Lake is a nice stop.
