CT I-84
I always chime in when someone asks about getting around NYC when coming east, and I've been critical of Connecticut and I-84 through Danbury/Waterbury in the past.
Well, we went through there yesterday and it was actually a pleasant drive. The road work seems to be complete (at least from the NY border to I-691/CT 66) and the road surface is excellent. Even the bridge expansion joints are less bone jarring.
We were in State College PA last weekend and coming east we did I-80 to US 209 through the Delaware water gap to I-84. This completely misses the NYC metro area and northern NJ. I-84 in New York was miserable, especially the bridge joints. But once into CT, it was smooth sailing.
When we go this way, we usually take I-691 to CT 66 and CT 9 to hook up with I-95 in Old Lyme, and this was also a pleasant drive. I-691 and the open portion of CT 66 has been freshly paved as well.
I know you people in CT pay a lot of taxes. Thanks for the fresh tar.
