We tow a two axle trailer with an SUV and the rates are never in the hands of the empleado de la caseta. We are charged as a vehicle with two additional axles. Absolutely correct.
There may be issues with buses, tag axles or dualies but those can be addressed if people are willing to do something about it versus complaining and making comments such as "we just pay it, that's Mexico". Mexico is a country that does not sell rvs and Mexicans as a rule don't use them. I wholeheartedly agree!
And therein lies the crux of the matter. As I mentioned earlier, almost all responses on this thread are coming from people driving MHs or buses or whatever. Since the toll operator would virtually never see one of these except when a tourist drives through, it is reasonable to expect that he may not charge it the way the driver thinks it should be charged. These units present the toll operator with combinations that are unusual and difficult for him to fit into the rate categories he has been given to work with. No doubt there will be inconsistencies because of this.
On the other hand, a SRW or DRW pickup is not an unusual occurrence for the toll operator and they clearly fit into the categories that he is given to work with. A SRW is classed as a car while a DRW is classed as a truck, and while some may not agree with this, there can be no argument that this is the case. When pulling a trailer, the additional axles of the trailer are added to the charge for the tow vehicle and the operator will very, very rarely make any mistake on this.
