Spent a week going to Deadhorse and back. Incredible.
  • I did not have time to drive the haul road on our first trip to Alaska. I will do it the next time we go...........
  • I just finished the section on the Dalton Highway in my Alaska Trip travelogue thread; the specific posts (with pictures) start with this one. I was there about a month before the ones in the story above were taken, and that month made quite a difference in the general appearance of things: it seems it went from late summer to early winter, or at least late autumn.

It's simply beautiful country. I don't think it's really possible to do it proper justice with a camera. Maybe an IMAX movie could start to come close...especially if they have some sort of seat shaker machines.
  • Being able to experience this part of Alaska is amazing, we spent several days traveling the Dalton Road (Haul Road) in 2015. Just a few of our photos:

^^^^ This. I recall one of my trips on the Dalton (then primarily called the "Haul Road") in '78 IIRC. Timing was just perfect for me to leave Squarebanks as it was getting dusky: our "convoy" of 2 duece-and-a-half trucks was headed North in the summer and it didn't get dark again until our return a few days later (drive to Deadhorse, drop off supplies, return). Fantastic country.

  • Enjoyed viewing these images!
Reminded me of our riding a Princess Cruise Line bus from Prudoe Bay to Fairbanks several years ago (summertime).
It took up 2 days. Spent the night in Coldfoot.
