Dangerous Driving Conditions Possible This Afternoon In AZ

I sat one out up by Casa Grand one time - they had I10 shut down both ways so we were this long line vehicles going no place. There were times I could not see the second vehicle in front of me. Not fun.

I "recently" retired as well - 20 years ago at age 55. Bottom line - don't have all we want, but have all we need. Never regretted the decision. And no golden parachute and no pension. Now Soc Sec and investment income (tougher to come by all the time!)

I just play'd around with NOAA's Phoenix web site and found the wind predictions. I hate towing in the wind. Every 100 miles seems like 300:)

If the wind is predicted to be over 40mph, we park it. That's the joy of being recently retired. No pressure to be anywhere by a certain time.

We were in two around Casa Grande, AZ. Definitely not a good feeling when you can't see inches in front of you! These were in December and February.

Sorry for anyone that finds themselves in AZ this time of year. Having been there, find a place to park, and good luck.

Naio - It happens several times a year between Phoenix and New Mexico. I've seen it first hand many times. A few years ago, there was a young brother and sister killed when they were run over by a semi while on their way to get ice cream at a local restaurant near the freeway.

I try to monitor the local weather and post these warnings for fellow RVers who may not know how dangerous these things can be. If you see dust or storms on the horizon, get off the road if at all possible. These things travel at 70-90 mph, and can be on you very very fast. Most of the time, you'll probably be able to see in the dust, but it only takes one time where you can't, and the results are catastrophic.

Dust storms , pull way off , shut down motor !

I agree with every thing, accept, staying in your vehicle. Earlier this year a couple of people were squashed like bugs after stopping. Vehicles damaged beyond recognition. I would get as far away from the highway as I could run.

Here in PA on one particular stretch of I-80 several people are killed every year in blinding snow squalls after having stopped along the highway by drivers who refuse to slow down even in poor to "0" visibility.
