  • The gas Mexico sells is using International standards. Saying Magna is low quality is nothing more than an opinion.
No Mexican would void their warranty by removing the catalytic converter, pure nonsense.

    Mexican.
  • Never had a problem in our 06 Honda using nothing but Magna - lots of miles all over Mexico. No problem with any diesel fuel in Mexico either.
  • We did January 2003 through March 2008 averaging 3 months per year in a 1997 Ford 460 30' Class A with no fuel problems, nothing but Magna.
  • We´ve never used anything other than Magna. The SUV, which we use to pull the trailer, has over 350,000 kms all but the few from the U.S. and Canada using Magna. Same with my VW Pointer, runs great with 180,000 kms.

We´ve never seen an issue. No use of additives either.
  • Russ: Did you know that there are shops in HMO that remove your Catalytic Converter and install a pipe. You get a few bucks for the converter. Mexicans with brand new cars do this. I think they pay about $100 !! Luckily there are no smog checks.

  • I drive about 30,000 miles a year with my van a 2004 Chevy 3500 and only use Magna in it and I have never had a problem, but then again I took the cats off a few years ago and it runs like new
  • I do not know what the octane is for Magna, but I would not be surprised if they still dump some lead in it to prevent the knocking of the older engines, my nephew has an old Bronco and uses Magna, when he stops on the gas that thing rings jingle bells all the way to the next shift, we have tried resetting the timing to no avail, modern or new engines have a knock sensor that automatically adjust the timing via the computer to suppress the knocking, lead is poison for the catalytic units.

  • Your mention of Magna being low quality is interesting. For years I used only Magana in my vehicles. I read of expats having problems with their Catalytic Convertors and shrugged it off as nonsense. I WAS WRONG ! My wife's Rav 4 has a partially plugged convertor. She now uses Premium. magna is mostly produced in Mexico according to the forum experts. It is NOT a low sulfur fuel. Premium is produced in the USA according to those same experts. It is a low sulfur fuel and Pemex even puts that on the pumps or the signage. The Rav 4 convertor is around $300. If you have a gas motorhome with dual exhaust I bet the convertors are more like $400 each. Only 83 centavos price difference. Less than a nickel a Litre.
