Deh Cho Trail

We are planning a month long trip along the Deh Cho Trail this summer and would like any/all information. Already have booked Territorial parks at Hay River, Ft Providence, Yellow Knife, Ft Simpson and Blackstone.
Thanks

  • It's always interesting to see different people's reaction to a specific trip. My blog for that route starts with "My days have been so full of wonderful experiences that I find it rather hard to keep track of the days.", while for 1027nayr it sounds like the trip from hell. My wife and I will be doing it in our Class A asap - probably not 2015, but hopefully the year after.
  • Sorry you did not have a great experience. We did this trip about 6 years ago and had a wonderful trip. Sure there were bugs, bad in some places, not so in others. Bug head nets worked well when necessary. What were you expecting?
Road conditions change constantly depending on the weather and when they were last graded.
  • Update. We spent 20 days traveling through Alberta, Northwest Territories and a short drive in BC. Alberta was great, expecially Canmore and Jasper. Great campground host, Marlene, in Manning! NWT Territorial parks were great, not much else was sorry to say!
#1 Was the hottest summer in 50 years!
    #2 Bugs were horrendous!
#3 Towns were dusty, rundown and did not offer much. Although each towns visitor centers were very good!
#4 Road from Ft Providence to Ft Simpson is mainly gravel. Very rough, working on some areas and spraying to keep dust down which just creates MUD. Road from Ft Simpson to BC gravel, slightly better. I am talking over 200 miles on this with 40 MPH being top speed in a camper! Also drove over 100 miles on one stretch and met ONE car!
Sorry for being so negative, not what we wanted or hoped for.
  • We will be traveling in a 31' Class C motorhome with another couple. Any issues driving them on these roads/routes?
    Thanks
