We are new to RVing and live in California, We are anxious to travel before spring and summer and would like to plan a short excursion in January or February for a week or two. What routes and destinations would you suggest? Not snowy but cold is okay.

We live in Southern California....Our favorite is to head up HWY 101 to Oregon. You'll see Solvang, Pismo, Hearst Castle, Carmel, San Francisco, redwoods, ocean, wine country on short side trips from the highway.Even more adventurous is to travel up HWY 1 and then come back down HWY 101. Hwy 1 can have some weather issues fog, rain, wind and mudslides but the scenery is spectacular.Another trip on our bucket list (we've done part of it) is to go up HWY 49 known as the Gold Country Highway. There is an FMCA Rally in January in Indio. Even if you are not an FMCA member they have plenty of seminars and sellers of all types of goodies in the tents. A fun week. With El Nino expected we are hesitant to make reservations for the early months travel, but we will go someplace for sure. Perhaps Flying Flags in the Beulton Solvang area, or up to Pismo. Or south to San Diego. Other short trips would be east to Las Vegas, though were are go this week for Rodeo, or Parumph. It just depends on the weather. Rain is wet and we are not snow people...at all. Sacramento also offers plenty of different camping styles, from the Napa area to central and Tahoe.

I would stay anywhere along or south of I-10. Yuma, quartzite Az, sodona, san antonio, big bend national park, south texas and the florida coasts.
