DIA DE LA CANDELARIA

Today is when you buy "tamales" if you ate "rosca de reyes" (bread of the 3 majic kings) on the 6th of January and got a figurine on the slice that you got, it is a tradition in Mexico that you buy the tamales on this day and invite your friend to share your good foftune, so go get some tamales.

Some tamales have meats and others have salsa verde or mole and also made with straw berrys and pine apple, those are sweet and some have chile and others not, so enjoy the tamales.

When in Mexico enjoy the culture and the food.

  • Some traditions are going out and new ones replacing them, life changes and so do customs.

  • Y lo que va bien con los tamales es el atole

And what goes well with tamales is atole

My kids are prone to slipping with tradition. El abuelso (the grandfather) is stodgy about remembering culture. A lot of the fun of being in Mexico is following the average traditional diet.

Sweet tamales tamales de elote are especially good on a chilly winter morning. A few of those puppies and a frothy cup of chocolate de la abuela with a stick of canela cinnamon will build the steam up for an active day.

The kids were nuts about pan dulce until grandfather whipped up a batch of bear claws. Have to be more careful about that. When the girls see smoke coming from the adobe oven (el horno) they know baking is in process in the morning. Roasting coffee beans is an afternoon obra (job)
