Using the wrong fuel will increase the number of times the DPF cycles which will reduce the life expectancy of the DPF since you can only expect so many cycles over time. Of course neither I nor the Cummins Service Manager would make a claim to being the world's foremost authority. But logic says everything wears out over time. If you put 500ppm fuel into a system designed for 15ppm fuel common sense should tell you the system will have to burn that substance off more often - more burns = shorter life. Just how much more cycles might limit life is probably debatable.
Since BrianSue keeps regurgitating his same old gibberish, I felt it would be only fair if I restated my own personal real-world experience:
The use of Mexican LSD fuel in my 2013 Duramax HAS NOT increased the frequency of regens while pulling my 5th. I log all regens on my truck as closely as I can. The frequency of regens is highly dependent on the type of driving and load being carried/pulled. Back home, using ULSD and where the majority of my use is as a daily driver, my average between regens is 500 to 600 kms, but when pulling my 5th wheel trailer, this will increase to 850 to 950 kms.
On my trips through Mexico, using Mexican LSD fuel, the frequency of my regens does NOT increase at all while pulling my 5th, nor are any codes displayed. This season, I went as much as 1100 kms between regens on the trip home, while using Mexican LSD fuel. That's twice the distance I average back home while using ULSD and using my truck as a daily driver! I DO NOT use Mexican LSD fuel in my vehicle as a daily driver once I am settled at my destination in Mexico. Local taxis are cheap and plentiful.
