regurgitating his same old gibberish
2013 Duramax
Note that my comments refer to Cummins and what I have been told by Cummins. Note also that not only don't I claim to be an expert but I have stated as much. A Duramax or a Ford or a Dodge or a GMC all refer to pickups and I refer to Cummins diesels and trucks - not pickups. I have no idea what might happen to any given engine under any given circumstance. Nor have I ever told anyone not to go to Mexico. There is often more than one side to every story or issue. My suggestion has always been to contact the engine manufacturer's engineering department to get a written statement from them on this issue. I have no idea and have said so. But owners should ask questions and get as many facts as they can from as many sources as they can. My post in this thread mentioned what a service manager at Cummins told me. I had no reason to doubt him. But I do not suggest that he or any employee at a dealer would be the preferred source of reliable information and I have said so in the past as I did in my post above. Why would you own an expensive piece of equipment and then take advice from some unknown entity on some internet forum instead of consulting the engineers who designed the system? Maybe some people get their information from some unknown poster on internet forums but I try to think I am not that dumb. Question - do these engines or do the not say they are designed to use ULSD only and that ULSD is required? Question - is there any possibility that a system designed to filter 15ppm would seem more than the expected amount of soot when using 500ppm - 33 times the amount it was designed for? I post to encourage those with any sense to seek out more than one source of information on the subject - preferably quite a few sources - and that those sources be well known and responsible - such as the engineer at the home office. That is the only gibberish I have ever posted.
