Driving Albuquerque to Ruidoso Downs, NM

We are driving our RV with tow from Albuquerque to Ruidoso Downs. We're staying at a campground on US 70 and our GPS is telling us to take I-25 south to US 380 to US 70. Just wondering how steep this drive is or if anyone has driven this and has any insight into the drive. Thanks!

This is the way we've gone with a 40' motorhome. No issues for an RV.
  • Look at I-40 to NM 3 to US 54 to US 380 and then NM 37 & 48. More scenic and time wise is almost the same as I-25/380.

If you want real scenic and have an extra hour to kill then use I-40 to County RD 337 to CR 55 to US 54. Same distance as I-26/380 but an hour longer and more unique sights. It goes past Gran Quivira one of the first Spanish Missions in NM- long abandoned and in ruins.
  • Going all the way to 70 is way out of the way. I 25 ...380....37...48 if it were me . You do have a 4 mile grade to pull leaving Nogal and one to pull just before Ruidoso but it is the best route.... IMO. No big down grades though. Going to 70 is flatter.
  • We drove it the opposite direction last week.
    Nothing notable about the drive.
    No big or scary hills.

Now if you leave Ruidoso headed east on 70, lookout! :)
  • We drove basically that route 2 yrs ago towing a 35' 5er. No problem at all. No steep grades.

We took US380 to NM37 to NM48 to Ruidoso. Shorter than going all the way to US70 and backtracking.

You staying at the Circle B?
