Driving the Alaska Highway in the winter

I've just come down the Alaska Highway from Whitehorse to Dawson Creek (and on to Hinton where I'm house-sitting for my son and his wife), and have posted 2 lengthy blogs with a total of 66 photos of the highway, notes on costs, animals, etc. The first one covers Whitehorse-Muncho Lake, and Muncho to Dawson Creek is linked from it. In a couple of weeks I'll be heading back to Whitehorse via Hwys 16 and 37.

Since I grew up in PB county it made sense to Snowbird here. Even if it was not a nice park, it's about the only game in WPB and it's currently full with no rental lots available. Lot prices are starting back up and it's hard to duplicate the vegetation in a newer park.

I noticed the Discover Channel GOLD RUSH bunch all recently left ALASKA for their lower 48 homes hehe...

Just viewed all of the photos - thanks a bunch for sharing....

The only time I run into Buffalo is in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge at Medicine Park, OKLA. They get used to the automobiles being around them and you can actually drive right next to one and touch him. But when you open the truck door and they hear the door click noise they all take off running hehe...

  • Oh come on up - it's gorgeous! Minus 49C wind chill (that's -56F) here in Hinton this morning, though - a tad nippy!
