I would get on I-10 and travel to Doathan, AL. Then Troy to Montgomery. At Prattville, AL (10 miles North of Montgomery on I-65) you can either take I-65 to Birmingham or take Hy 82 to Tuscaloosa. Downside to Birmingham is that there always seems to be long traffic delays. Downside to Tuscaloosa is Hwy 69 to Jasper (narrow winding road). If you go to Tuscaloosa take Hwy 43 to Fayette, better road than the Jasper route.
If you go to Birmingham (which I usually do and pray there are no traffic jams) continue I-65 toward Hunstville. About 10 miles North of Birmingham take the Daniel Payne exit. Make your way to Hwy 78, also know as the Future I-2 Corridor, to Jasper, Al. Contiue on Hwy 78 for about another 50 miles and watch for the Red Bay exit. You are getting very close to the Mississippi State Line at this point.
Hope this helps.
