We were stopped three years ago near Monclove--they wanted the tow car to have its emergency flashers going! I showed them the travel map we have on the rig showing most of North America from Alaska to Quintana Roo, the fancy tow bar, the brake buddy and the fact that the tow car lights worked in conjunction with motorhome. And that we had been inspected at the border that morning.
They gave up on that then wanted to see the dogs immunization papers! I told them (not quite truthfully) that they had been inspected by the proper authorities at the border and that I did not believe that it was in the Transito's mandate but would show them anyway.
One officer made a big fuss about the word "Tia' on the document she held. When I pointed out politely that this was the digs name, her partner dragged her away in disgust.
Next year we went around the bypass, no problem. I understand from friends that the problem there seems to have gone away. Now if we can just work on the rest of the country. . .
We haven't paid a mordita in 10 years. We tell them to give us a ticket or let us go. Once I picked up my cell phone to call my friend in Saltillo "to help translate" and we were quickly sent on our way!
I must say though that we have always watched our speed. If I do get stopped legitimately I will still insist "ticket or let us go" Giving into the bribery only encourages the problem to continue.
Mind you it's hard to be annoyed with under paid and under trained police asking for bribes when you and they know full well what goes in the highers levels.
