Eagle pass or Laredo

We will be heading down to P.V. in December and I was wondering what border crossing would our members recommend Eagle Pass or Laredo and what time of day would be best.

Thanks,

AL

  • The permit office is open 24/7 in Laredo and bankers hours at Columbia.
  • Thanks for your help I will let you know how we make out also just wondering what the hours the permit office is open ...
  • Laredo has always been the best for us - follow I-35 south, cross the border, pay a small toll for the bridge, drive through the first inspection (no one is ever stopped there) drive east a mile, hook back - the immigration building is almost under the bridge. One stop shopping there - huge parking lot. Get tourist cards and vehicles temporarily imported right there and fast.
I tried Columbia once and hated it. It's a mystery why so many here like Columbia. I must have crossed at Laredo 15 times and there's never been a problem.
  • We have used both in the past. We took Eagle Pass several times then one year found ourselves in San Antonio so decided to try Laredo (Columbia Bridge crossing--not the one in town) and now we purposely detour to use that one.

It us much quicker to Saltillo, and in fact now we can stop further south than that. It also avoids Monclova, which used to be a Transito Gauntlet run though I have heard that it has improved.

As for time, we always strive to cross early, as soon as the crossing is opens, about 8:00 AM I believe. That way we can get further into Mexico Not really any good overnight places closer to the border.

Last year we had planned to stop in Mazatlan and PV on our way south to Zihuatabejo but were delayed in San Antonio for too long (waiting for a windshield for the coach) so we just headed south.
