Eastern Canada - Diesel and DEF availability??

We love to show off our country to our southern neighbours because so many are pleasantly surprised on their first visit. We also love to come south to enjoy your beautiful scenery, warm winters and diversity of all the different places to see. I feel we are both winners when it comes to being able to travel in each others countries. It's a win win for all of us. I for one are glad we are neighbours.

Don't worry, if Trump is elected we won't build a wall to keep you out LOL.

Kind of like driving thru Montana? Fuel and food are a few miles apart.

I just had questions on DEF and diesel availability in more remote areas of Canada. Just like I check out before heading into less populated areas of the USA, I was asking about planning and doing an eastern Canada tour. Sometimes you need to plan ahead and fuel up early.

Please excuse us Canadians for making some of the snide comments but you have to realize we have had decades of questions that make us shake our heads. I remember years ago a friend was filling up a motorhome of a visiting US traveller. It took more than double the expected fuel and the gas station attendant commented on the capacity of the motorhome. The traveller said he was not sure how often he would find gas stations in Canada so he had extra tanks installed.

We don't live in igloos, have dog sleds in every yard and it's not always the land of ice and snow, especially in the south western pacific coast. The town I live in has palm trees growing there. They are small (under 20 ft) but none the less, still palm trees. Come on up to Canada. We are friendly, helpful and your dollar will go a long way.

Being based out of the center of the Maritimes (Moncton N.B) I can tell you that we have the same Diesel fuel that you use stateside, available at pretty much every gas station you'll see and much like the states not all stations are RV friendly to get in and out of. DEF is available in bottles at pretty much every gas station, walmart, Canadian tire and auto parts store along with every commercial truck stop.

Note that I drive a new Diesel pickup myself, no issues here. I actually find it harder to find DEF and Diesel in some areas of the Northeast USA than at home in some areas I've travelled to.

the only real difference you'll notice is that there's not much between cities so fuel up and stock up as you're often 35-60 minutes away from much of anything on some stretches of road.

Even though our season is much shorter than most of the US (May to October) RVing is huge out here, ton's of campers out on the roads and lots of spots to camp at.

Now tha CT 'money' is only digital I suspect from Washington State would be overly concerned with it.

Besides which, experience has shown that CT stores rarely have propane pumps.

As to the availability of services generally in Canada the point to remember is size.

Canada is physically larger than the continental US is, yet there are more people in the combined Los Angeles and New York areas than there is in all of Canada. Add to that far more than half the population of the country lives in urban centres, in fact more than 1/3rd live in just Ontario, and you end up with a LOT of very sparsely populated countryside.

In other words look to highway truck stops and country stores - the carry scads of products and have a nice large fuel bay with a propane set up for trade of containers. Otherwise, re. propane, I've seen many an propane source, both trade and actual refill at the area Canadian Tire. Or saved CT $ for years for my cross continent trip. In the end didn't use those $ for fuel, but for oil change, fluid level checks, and other repairs in mid trip.

I never had any trouble finding propane in Canada in my DP. If you don't spot a handy place on the highway, simply stop at a commercial RV park, such as KOA.

My propane comment/question had to do with accessibility of getting a large on board propane tank filled on a 36 foot RV. I look forward to visiting our neighbors to the north and seeing what looks to be a beautiful part of Canada. Thanks

This comment from Campin Family show a difference from US to Canada.

"Yes, contrary to popular American beliefs, we drive the same vehicles you do, using the same gas and DEF. We even have paved roads, hydro and running water in our stick and brick homes and some are lucky enough to have cable tv."

When the Canadians refer to Hydro they are referring to electricity, not water.
I have found propane more available in Canada than the US but they have the requirement of having the tanks inspected if over 10 years old and some places won't fill the propane tanks on my RVs.
