Eastham Massachuetts to Hershey PA - route help!

We will end up in Eastham Massachuetts for Labor Day weekend. Looking for the best route to drive my 36 foot motorhome with toad to get me to Hershey PA. Live in Seattle so used to driving freeway traffic. Traffic along 95 appears to be pretty heavy and should possibly be avoided. Can anyone help me with the best route to divert around the New York area if that's what I should do. Thanks so much in advance .

Like K Charles said...come off the Cape onto rt 25 to I-495 say on 495 to the Mass tpke I-90 go west to I-84 in Sturbridge,Mass stay on I-84 to Newburgh,NY and go SOUTH on I-87 to Sufferin,NY and pick up I-287 to about 45 miles to I-78 to I-81 toward Harrisburg,Pa as you get close to Harrisburg ,you'll see I-83 to Hershey Park...OR
ON I-84 all the way to Scranton,Pa and pickup I-81 ..what's nice about this route is ,if ya want to stop can at exit 53 on I-84 in Pa..first exit over the bridge from NY and stop at Tri-State Campground in Matamorpis,Pa or continue to Wilkes Barre on I-81 x-170 ,I think, and stay at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs in lot D...then continue to Harrisburg directions above
ALSO I WOULD not leave Eastham til at least 10 AM on TUESDAY MORNING...Chuck
  • If I were making that trip, I'd probably do K Charles's route, or else I-95 to I-287 to I-78. I-95 through Connecticut can have a fair bit of traffic but it's doable with an RV. (On the other hand, going through Hartford, CT and Scranton / Wilkes-Barre PA is also not always the most fun driving.)

Do be certain to avoid the Connecticut (and New York) parkways which are as a rule restricted to automobiles, with good reason.
  • Where is Eastham Maine?
If you mean Ma then 495 to Ma pike and then 84
  • We took I-95 to Hwy 9 in CT. Then I-91 south to I-691 to I-84. Then 87, 287, 78. There is a KOA in Newburgh that is nice. 3-4 miles off I-84.
