The route you are speaking of does take you right thru the downtown core of Bar Harbor. The streets are a little tight and I would not want to take my trailer thru there. There is another turn off a few miles before the town, it is well marked and a little past the Bar Harbor Campground. The road just forks to the right and takes you into the park, from there you can get to the campground, and I would guess it is about the same distance (minus the traffic and hassle of the route going thru town).
