The Kindle works fine, at least my Fire and Paperwhite both worked when we were in Banff last summer. The Paperwhite is best for pure reading, it gives you black text on a pure white background and is backlit so you can read in the dark as well as full sunlight. It does not work well for graphics or photos tho. You can store hundreds of books on it.

The Fire has a color screen and is much better for graphics and reading works fine on it too. Strangely Amazon.ca show all the Fire models as unavailable.
