Thinking of getting hubby an eReader for christmas but have heard that some purchased in Canada don't work in the US. We travel to florida. Any suggestions?

Dont Ereaders use wifi? If so, as long as you have internet it will work. You should also look at tablets like the Ipad mini cor feature/cost comparison.
