This very well describes the highway situation getting to Estes.
Hwy 34 probably gets 80-90% of the traffic coming to Estes - from the towns of Ft. Collins and Loveland, and travelers from I-25. Complete repair many years away and they don't know where the money is coming from after the temporary; mostly gravel fix (might not even allow RV traffic, don't know).
Before the storm Estes was 30 miles from Loveland (Hwy 34), 40 or so miles from Ft. Collins (Hwy 34) 65 miles from Denver (Hwy 36). With the only open route now coming up from Idaho Springs off I-70 those distances are 165 for Ft. Collins, 155 for Loveland and 105 from Denver.
Even when they get Hwy 34 thru on a temporary basis it will be slow and probably not suited for rv travel. Same with the temp work on Hwy 36 up thru Boulder from Denver or across on Hwy 66 from I-25. The bridge at Lyons might have restrictions as well. Not sure.
This is an excellent update on the road situation.
