Fairbanks, Alaska

We are in Fairbanks, AK...weather is warmer than usual for sure!:E

Trying to find a campground that doesn't pack you in like sardines and has full hookups. We would even be okay with staying a little ways out of town if it is a nice RV park. We are a 35' fiver, hauled by a one ton. Any ideas?

We would like to see the sights while here in Fairbanks...have reservations in Denali on June 29.

Thanks!
  • Just read the news and they are saying there is a wildfire near Nenana which is on the road south (Hwy 3) from Fairbanks to Denali and it has the road closed into the park from that direction. Have not heard whether it is opened yet. May not even get to the park! Had rain this morning, but don't know if it is enough to stop fires. Sure didn't help the thick smoke here in Fairbanks ~ but on the light side (no pun intended) it did cool us down nicely. ;)
Imagine the smoke is even thick up near Chena Hot Springs.
We're in a "wait and see" mode...we do have reservations in the park, but if they don't get the fire out, roads opened we may not even make it there.
  • A few years ago the day we left Fairbanks it was 100 degrees. Did not know until that visit that Fairbanks area is a classified a desert.
  • LOL you just THINK you're packed in but wait until you get to Denali :)
  • In 2009 we stayed for 2 weeks in Riverview RV Park, North Pole. Was a nice park and easy commute to Fairbanks for attractions. Will be there again in about 10 days.
  • A good side trip would be Chena Hot Springs...lots of camping there too. 50+miles north.
