Looking for some suggestions and advice please. We will be traveling from Crystal River FL to Fort Worth TX starting Feb 1 as we could not get reservations in FL for the month of Feb so we have decided to slowly make our way to TX. We are so new at this and have never been in any of the southern states or coastline. We would appreciate some advice and suggestions on a route and CGs along the way.We like to travel between 2 and 2 and a half hours a day and stay from 2 - 3 days. We are not fancy, no pets or kids and prefer FHU with our 32' fiver. We would like to see the southern coastline and love local seafood. We know the weather will be cool, but being from New England some cool weather would be fine. We are loving this FL weather in December though! Thanks in advance for your suggestions and advice.

Rethink Ft Worth in Feb. Can and most likely will be Snow & ICE on & off and cold Most of the time. Bad time to be in NORTH Texas.Consider Interstate 10 into Texas and then head SOUTH below Houston. Lots of snowbirds along the Texas coast line.

I would not follow US 98 along the Florida coast because of heavy traffic, though it might be OK in February. Santa Rosa Island is worth a visit, across the sound from Pensacola. There is also the Naval Air Station with a nice museum at Pensacola. You would now be following I-10 from Pensacola. A variation would be to camp at Fort Pickens National Seashore at Pensacola.Second night@ Fairview/Riverside State Park near Madisonville, Louisiana, about 300 miles from St. Andrews, just off I-12. This means taking I-12 around New Orleans which is what we always do, but if you wanted to visit New Orleans there are several RV parks there. In either case you continue on I-10 to I-49 which cuts up north to Shreveport.Third night @ Nachitoches, LA. There is a simple campground there called Nachatoch RV Park. This is between Lafayette and Shreveport. There are several historic plantations worth a visit, as well as the old town of Nachitoches itself.Then could easily make it on to Fort Worth in 285 miles. At Shreveport pick up I-20 which goes around south of Dallas with several access points to Fort Worth.There are almost endless variations of this trip, but at least this is a start, and I have been over ever mile of it. I will be glad to answer any specific questions you may have.

I wouldn't advise going to Dallas/Fort Worth in February....too cold! You'll need to go further south near the Rockport area. Another idea would be Gulf Shores, Alabama area - very nice beach and great seafood. It's a neat little area.I'm really surprised you can't get a month in Florida. Are you trying for one specific area only? You might try breaking it up and trying different areas - like a week each. Also try the state and county parks. Good luck and enjoy your travels!

Yes, second it on the Rockport area! Ft. Worth is really cold in February!! We also traveled I-10, stopping in southern MS (Bay St. Louis), Southern LA, and the Galveston Island area on our way to south-TX, you can use the ferry at Port Bolivar.

We use US 84 most of the way into the FT Worth area. Pick it up at Andalusia AL.From Perry Fl to the USFS CG at Open Pond is the long day at a little over 200 miles.19/98/27 to I-10 then off on US 331 to SR 55.Next stop at Coffeeville, Al, service park acoe and watch the barges. Next stop is Clear Springs, USFS or Natchez SP. Thru Natchez follow US 61 to US 425 and you'll miss downtown and pick up US 84 at the MS river. Next stop is Gum Springs, USFS; dry camping near Winnfield LA which has a wally world also laundrymat behind the hospital. Several choices at this point for your next stop. Hwy 6 out of Natchitoches to the Sabine, Anglna, and Davey Crockett NF's in TX. It's a more southern route.Stay on US 84 for a more northern route with stops at Purtis Creek, TXSP, and Ft Parker, TXSP. From there head NW to I-35 and head towards Lake Benbrooke which has several ACOE CG's close to FT Worth. As others have said weather in Feb will be ugly.If you go the southern route there are several nice USFS CG's and a nice ACOE on the Sam Rayburn reservoir.
