We visit Jax often and are close to Boone. Your routes to Boone are right on (except 421 doesnt go through Blowing Rock).
Your side trip to Asheville from Boone is a little more difficult.
Check with the locals in Boone for your best routing...it can be very arduous...twisty and steep.
