Florida to Michigan

Will be leaving north central Florida on Saturday for the trip back to Michigan (just south of Port Huron). Have heard a lot of stories about the I-75 issues in Tennessee and don't know if that is clear yet. Also, any tips from anyone who has any other knowledge of I-75 problems is appreciated.

I would like to avoid some of I-75 anyway and was thinking about going across I-10 and cutting up through Alabama, eventually catching I-65 and taking that to Louisville and cutting back over to I-75. How is the bridge work around Louisville? Have heard some horror stories about that area also.

Tips, suggestions??
  • We came back to s/e Michigan about a month ago taking I65 from Topsail hill, cutting over to I75 via I71 around Louisville. There was construction quite a bit which stopped us a few times on the freeway. If it were me, I would just take I75 straight up, depending on where you're at in Florida. You're going to hit the construction in Ohio either way which seemed to last 30 or more miles. Keep your brake controller turned up a bit and watch for sudden stops.
  • I-75 in TN is open again. All done but for the hillside. If you want a good route off the Expressway take 441 up to Waynesville NC. and pick up I-40 to Newport TN and pick up 321/25E thru Cumberland Gap. If time is not a big factor and you don't mind going through towns its all good road. 441 will be my route every time I go to FL now. Took it down a few weeks back and it misses all the BS of the e-way. alot less traffic and not too different on time either.
