This trip will likely be when the kids break from school in spring.

You will be right at home then, traffic wise. Except the Freeways aren't as bad most of the time. Turnpike has limited traffic since it's a toll road and is pretty fast. I think the 'freeways' are not exactly free but have petty tolls on them down there. Almost all of the toll roads are south of Orlando and in an amazing coincidence that area is heavily populated by New York and other NE state natives.

I-95 north of this area is rated number four in traffic deaths nationally from a headline I read last week. I assume that's on Interstates.

  • I-10 is fine except for Louisiana, but there are only bad roads in Louisiana. Be sure to take the I-12 bypass around New Orleans.

Then get on I-75 off I-10 to Disney. Take the Florida Turnpike to Orlando off I-75. You can take the turnpike to Miami from there. Be warned that south Florida traffic is very very bad. It took us an hour to go less than a mile on US-1 in Miami. And I got off I-95 to look for a neighborhood in Miami drove a couple of blocks in the traffic and then fought my way back to I-95 and gave up on the visit.

Take the Turnpike south from Miami until it ends in Florida City head straight south to US-I to the Keys.
  • Kids to Disney World. Visit a friend as well in Miami. Possibly drive down to the Keys. Won't be towing.

Thinking of heading south to the I-10 or I-40 then across.
  • To do what? Spring and Fall often have the best weather at least from a natives viewpoint. How long spring and fall last down here varies from year to year. Usually we'd be into early spring right now but our winter is hanging on, in the 30's last night. But 80's forecast for the week ahead.
