Florida turnpike to the keys?

I have stopped in Snapper Creek and didn't care for it. Pompano Bch. plaza was much better. You are going to pay a little more on the TP, but I hate having to mess with some of those cheaper places when towing. Its easy to get fuel in the Keys without your fw. Prices are going to be higher in Marathon, than in Key Largo. The Race Trac mentioned (south of Florida City, not Homestead) looked to be the easier place to get into down there.

The Race Trac at Homestead (actually Florida City) right after you exit the turnpike is a great place to stop and top off the tanks before heading south. We stopped there Tuesday for gas with our 36 ft trailer. Easy access to the pumps. The diesel lanes are better.

We took US-27 from the Orlando area to Fort Lauderdale and U.S.-27 & FL 997 to Homestead to avoid the turnpike. Didn't like paying $3.12 for every toll booth.

If you gas up before getting on the turnpike, I see no reason to gas up again before you get exit. You'll pay somewhere around 10 to 20 cents more a gallon on the turnpike than you would after you get off the turnpike in Homestead. I see diesel prices of 3.099 reported on the turnpike and the last diesel price reported at the Race Trac in Homestead Wednesday at 4pm of 2.899.

Snapper Creek is in south Miami and diesel is currently $3.03. The Speedway at the end of the turnpike in Florida City has diesel for $2.89 per Gas Buddy.

We will be entering the turnpike from Fort Wilderness. Anywhere easier than Snapper creek? Where is Snapper Creek?

The turnpike is proud of their fuel and the further south you go the more expensive it becomes on and off of it. I fill at the Hess station at the Kissimmee exit by turning left at the stoplight and right to the truck pumps. You can go around the back and through the light to get back on.

You have to exit the turnpike in the LEFT lane, and once you get into the fuel station, if you need diesel, follow the sign for trucks.

There is a FUEL lane that looks like a regular truck parking spot. There is a faded white sign on the road saying fuel lane, but it's easy to miss. If you go left you will go right past the truck fuel lanes, so find the white painted sign saying fuel lane and go there, otherwise you will miss the truckers fuel stop.

Diesel pumps are on the island farthest away from the building.

With a Dunkin doughnuts every stop, that could be a very fattening trip :B
