What I found when I was shopping for insurance was that companies will not allow a potential customer to read the proposed policy until after tbey buy it. So we cannot choose based on details of coverage.
Example: My home owner's insurance policy does not cover the cost to repair or replace a broken water line, but it will cover any water damage caused by broken pipe. It will not cover the cost of replacing a malfunctioning appliance but cover the house and contents if they are damaged by a fire caused by that appliance.
