forced winter camping sucks!

The family is currently "camping" in the drive way and while I'm extremely thankful, I can honestly say, summer camping is way more fun!

A week ago, the oven went from self clean to self distruct ans caught fire. It was amazing how quick it went bad. I hung in there after the family got out and put the fire out. I did have the call the fire department for help because of all the smoke. The house is being treated for smoke damage. Not thrilled that insurance isn't going to cover the 7 year old oven so essentially my deductible is now 2500 instead of 1000.

Why should we pay for it? Its not a maintence policy. The oven did not work as it should, this is not a covered loss. I have been adjusting claims for 30 yrs. and I am amazed what people think should be covered Glad you and your family are okay

I am very happy that the family is safe and sound. However, this illustrates one of the reasons people dislike insurance companies. By your logic if my furnace malfunctioned and burned down the house I would have to buy a new furnace out of my own pocket. Is it the same with an electrical fire and I would pay for the wiring of the new home? Who said it was a maintence issue in the first place? Are you saying if any system in the home malfunctioned and caused damage it shouldn't be covered? How ridiculous would that be? While I understand that home insurance doesn't cover wear and tear I believe it does cover catastrophic loss. I would certainly contact a private adjuster or attorney in a case like this.

  • Get a "public" adjuster to work for YOU. The insurance company is out to spend as little as. Possible. If you don't know exactly what your coverage is,they're not going to tell you. We had a pipe break while we were in Greece in 2001. The first floor and basement had to be gutted, furniture (antique) had to be repaired,Oriental rugs replaced and a thirty year collection of water color paintings repaired and reframed.

The insurance pushed hard for us to settle for $80K...eventual total bill was $273000. Our adjuster was worth his weight in gold. They should be paying for the use of your camper or putting you up in a hotel. You should be reimbursed for every added expense caused by your loss.
