I made that drive a couple of years ago driving a U-haul truck helping an old friend move back to Montana, he hates cities and heavy traffic so we took 287 through Wichita Falls,then turned north at Amarillo through Dumas, and Lamar CO. As I recall there was one noticeable ridge line on that drive, but also some rolling hills in Oklahoma. For the most part though it was vast expanse of nothingness, I think Amarillo is the only town of over 10,000 people for about 750 miles.
