MEXICOWANDERER

Per household, Mexico generates about 5% the amount of kWh than the USA. Electric cars will remain available to urban wealthy who never venture outside the city - beyond the range of the battery.
Mexico City is desperate to reduce winter pollution levels. They will do just about anything including the loss of money from CFE to lessen pollution. But some folks like to warp what happens in wealthier and more important cities with the reality of the other 98% of the country.
I am mostly concerned about the quality of life for my family. Mexico is no longer anywhere near being autonomous with comistibles (fuel) and this country is NOT a railroad, containerized society. Basic staples of life and civilization and transportation are all vulnerable to the cost of transporting stuff. So mayonnaise, tortillas, tomatoes, electrical power, bed sheets, televisions, and medicines travel toll roads and take it in the rear when energy prices spike. What was once a dollar ten cent cheapest public transportation ride to La Mira one way is now (within the last three years) three dollars eighty three cents.
The USA could supply 100% fracked crude for both the USA and Mexico and still gush sales overseas.
Utter autonomy for the next thousand yours. But the petroleum industry is blaming OPEC for a criminal grade ripoff of the public. Do I look stupid? The oil industry plays the pea under the three walnut shells with crude oil imports and exports. Cooking the books on a scale a thousand times more vast than all the corruption down here. They need an "out" from being pinned down by obvious adding and subtracting.
Americans can grumble and take it in the shorts. Many Mexicans get overburdened, pack up and head north. Like the little lady in the hamburger ads used to demand "Where's the beef!"
The only thing we can do is tighten our belts. But Mexico will continue to be more than ever dependent on stuff they cannot control.
I can only hope that the most popular presidential candidate lives up to more than 1% of his campaign promises. If he doesn't and fuel rises to $5.00+ per gallon this country is going to take a hit in the RV tourism sector that would be likely to never recover from -- the closure and sale of RV park land.
