Not at all. Fracking occurs from 6,000-15,000+ feet in depth. Groundwater averages 500 feet in depth.
When a well is drilled, the pipe is inserted in a larger size, then a smaller pipe installed inside the first pipe and plugged. At that point, the area between the two pipes is filled with cement. There is no contamination of the groundwater from fracking, as there is 18" of concrete and two steel pipes between the crude and the groundwater where it meets. All the anecdotes you see on the internet are unfounded and created by the opposition.
Yes, this is very oversimplified. Yes, I worked in the oil industry in the past. Yes, my grandfather retired as an engineer for Standard Oil. I kind of have some insight beyond what the media tells people.
