I would try to avoid NYC all together by coming down I95 through Connecticut to 287 just into NY. Take 287 over the Tappan Zee staying right through NJ when it intersects NJ Turnpike.
This route will avoid I95 through the Bronx and the GW Bridge both of which are a nightmare with a RV.
