When we head that way, we do I84 to I81 and pick up US50 out of Winchester VA to US17 to reconnect with I95. You miss NYC/NJ/DC and all that traffic. You don't have to go all the way to Scranton on 84, you can cut over to I80 and pick up I81 in Harrisburg.
An alternate would be I84-I87-I287-I80-I81 or I84-I87-I287-I78-I81.
