from I-40 to Farmington
will be traveling east on I-40 to Farmington, good sam shows one route and google map shows another, which road is the best into Farmington.

- When I drove 491 it was then called 666 and was a good road. I am not much help but the change in the route number may have helped ... mentally.

ED - Take 491 North out of Gallup, then 64 East to Farmington out of Shiprock. As another poster mentioned, be sure to buy gas in Gallup. It is a better road than other routes, such as 191.
- We will be going that way in April for the FMCA rally, and will be taking the 491. I driven that route before and found it nice, just rather desolate. I plan to fuel up in Gallop. If you have the time and the inclination to go scenic, the 160 from Flagstaff through the Navajo reservation and Monument Valley is spectacular. This will take you by Four Points. A little bit longer, also rather desolate in many places but a drive worth taking.
- 491 north out of Gallup is a good road.
