From Yuma to Vegas 95?

I pull 12klb 5th and will need to head north from Yuma toward Vegas. State 95 is straightest shot but, I don't know of the passes and grades or the fuel stops. I am diesel. Need your thoughts or suggestions. Thanks.
  • As other have said, up US95 to Quartzsite, AZ95 all the way to I-40 where there is a Loves and a Pilot. From there you can go west to US95 in CA and north into Vegas or go east to Kingman and take US93 to Vegas. The US93 way is about 10 miles longer and has some great vistas to see. Both ways are not flat but you shouldn't have any problems with the hills that are there. I have gone both ways many times and the US95 route is flatter than the US93 route. I took both routes last week.

Then I40 to Kingman. (Fuel in Kingman)

All of it is very good road with no grades.

I do not like US 95 in California rough and hilly road.

X1, Because the road is no narrow and no real places to pull off the road, it could be a real hassle if you had a mechanical break down:(

  • We stay on the Arizona 95 up to I40 then the California side from Needles to Vegas. The truck traffic is pretty bad from on the Ca side from Parker.

Loves truck stop in Quartzite, fuel stop at I40 and 95 north of Lake Havasu.

If you fuel up at the Pilot, that will leave you about 140 miles into Vegas.
  • US95 between Yuma and Vegas is really fairly flat. There may be some increase in elevation, but no real grades or passes. I usually stay on the east side of the river on AZ95 between I-10 and I-40. That section of US95 in CA was very rough the last time I was there. This may have been improved.

As to fuel stops, the total distance is a little over 300 miles. There should be fuel in any of the towns you pass through. Try to avoid buying fuel in Needles. Very high priced. Bullhead City, AZ usually has pretty good fuel prices and there is a Sam's Club there if you are members.

There should be no problems with this route. Stay safe!
