Ft Worth to Pensacola FL

In an earlier post I said that Miami was closer to Fort Worth than it was to Miami. I corrected that post above, but want to be sure I try to recover my credibility -- if possible :R

My mapping program added a stopover and I got the mileage completely wrong.

It is almost the same distance between Fort Worth and Pensacola compared with Pensacola to Miami -- 675 miles.

I remembered that Pensacola is nearer to HOUSTON than it is to Miami --
531 miles from Houston -- 675 miles to Miami.

This is one I should have stayed out of. :Z

BTW, while in Florida we stayed almost exclusively at Florida State parks and National parks except for a couple of nights in the Fort Myers area. They have a really great state park system. We didn't care a lot for one outside of Tampa, but mainly because of the mosquitos. Other than that they were all fantastic.

After stopping at Vicksburg, we stopped in the Pensacola area and again in the Tampa area before making it to the Keys. It is a very, very long drive. Well worth it, but I also had reservations in the Keys at Bahia Honda State Park and had two weeks for the trip.

The Loo Key snorkeling trip was fantastic. Made the whole trip worth it.

If you've not visited the French Quarter in N'Awlins I would suggest you come back that way and eat some Beignets and drink some wonderful coffee from Café Dumonde and on to Central Grocery or Napolean House for a muffuletta. You can stay right downtown within walking distance of it at French Quarter RV Park. It is expensive but we splurged on our way down to St Andrews this summer. It is like a parking lot but very nice and level and the showers are a private bathroom and very clean. We only walked to French Quarter during the daylight hours but did not feel threatened at any time.

You will come through Gulfport and Biloxi. After visiting French Quarter You can then take I-49 back up to I-20. Nice Drive.

It's almost 680 miles from Ft Worth to Pensacola and over 1500 to Key West so it would make for a LONG hard 2 day or 3 day drive each way

Pensacola is over 250 miles FARTHER from Miami than it is from Fort Worth, Texas.

Fort Worth to Pensacola -- 414 miles
Pensacola to Miama -- 672

We went from Fort Worth to the Keys this past summer. Our first night we stopped at a casino in Vicksburg. Extremely friendly staff. I had an electrical problem with my Travel Trailer so they let me change from my 30 amp site to a 50 amp (though that didn't actually resolve the issue). Offered any other assistance that they could provide as well.

There is a shuttle to the casino. The office is open 24/7 with a TV and showers, etc. Not many trees or anything, but it is still a clean nice place to stay overnight. Inexpensive as well. I don't remember the exact price but it was in the $20's and I think the 50 amp site was only a couple of dollars more even though she didn't charge me the higher rate.

Just to add another possibility: Fairview/Riverside State Park near Madisonville, LA. Has some full hook up sites. Right on the river. Just down the road is Fontainbleau State Park (down the road EAST, not far). We used to say at Fontainbleau all the time, but in recent years have preferred Fairview/Riverside.
