Fuel Stops Canada - What is a "Flying J Cardlock"

Plan on traveling thru Canada and was checking for Diesel Stations on my route. I generally like Flying J's as they conveniently have RV Islands. But in checking I see "Flying J Cardlock", I'm assuming it means having either the RV "Frequent Fueler ADVANTAGE" or RV PLUS Charge Card issued by Pilot to get access to pumps. Am I correct or is it something else?

Appreciate any input.

    Subject: Cardlock Canada locations

Thank you for contacting Pilot Flying J Guest Services!

Card Locks are convenient unmanned locations with commercial lanes with some limited amenities.
You are able to use your RV Plus Charge Card, but you will not be able to use your loyalty points card.
You may use other credit cards, as long as they are ones accepted by the location.(It should show the type of cards accepted on the pump)
I hope this information has answered your questions and if you need further assistance, please contact us by email or calling 1-877-866-7378.
  • Hi,

Very hit and miss on card lock. I've never successfully used one.
  • Yes, there are a number of cardlocks throughout Canada. We usually run from Sweetgrass in Montana to Edmonton and then on to Alaska and the cardlocks are much more prevalent north of Edmonton. Our experience with the FJ cardlocks is that although they are there, they are poorly maintained, dirty with spilled fuel, have some tremendous potholes, and their prices are usually the same as other stations in the same immediate area. We constantly have problems with the machines taking normal credit cards and seldom, if ever, had one take a loyalty card. FJ cardlocks do not have dedicated RV lanes and run the standard high speed, high pressure pumps found in truck lanes. Obviously, there are no rest rooms, attendants, or food available.
  • They have these here in the lower 48 too and it's as you said. Often we see them in remote locations and farmers have access to them or as seen in Greybull Wyoming, school bus drivers had access to the card lock with a special card.
